You should have been there! Hey..I should have been there! (I was out of town tending to the needs of my aging parents)...but it hear it was one for the ages of our school...and I feel the excitement as if I had been there.
Jan 11.
Home Game against Paradice Adventist Academy.
Not only it is a leage game, it is against a sister school in the Seventh-day Adventist Educational System...and a team we have never beaten. (Most teams we have never beaten!)
It's a close game all the way, but the Lumberjacks trail by 3 points with just seconds to go in the game. Lizzy Gruber brings the ball forward, and shoots a desperation three...it's good! Tie game...and Overtime.
In the overtime period...the lumberjacks win!
This gives them an overall record of 5-7...and not counting the tournament they played in...they would have a winning record...for the first after that many games!
Congrats on the win!

Both Teams
I have limited information on the games last night, as I was not able to attend either one due to a church board meetings...but the word from my sourses report that the girls varsity won their gam against New Life Christian in Marysville. It was a close game, but they hung on to win 37 to 36. That gives them an overall record of 4 - 6. Awesome!
The gym in Marysville has a carpeted floor and is a smaller court and one girl said that contributed to the team not scoring as well as they should have in the game. Plus, the refereeing again seemed to be partisan, especilly in the calling of fouls in the act of shooting for the Lady Lumberjacks.
The guys were home in Redding for their second game against American Christian Academy. Since that team is made up of homeschoolers, they have no gym to play in so their home games are in our gym as well. I don't know if they use the RAA gymn as their practice facility or not.
Anyway...Guys win 59 - 40, for their second win on the season, for a record of 2 - 5.
Good Job Guys...
This week both teams play 3 games, with two more home games on Tuesday and Thursday Nights.
Keep playing hard, and having fun.

Dogs Bite Girls!
The Lady Lumberjacks were attacked by the Los Molinos Lady Bulldogs Thursday night in their own home. They were never in the game, as they came out shooting very cold, scoring only 6 points in the first half.
As a team, they were 3 for 16 from the free throw line. Ouch!
They ended up loosing the game 17 to 35.
Indivitually there were some great plays, like when Natalie Hall stoll the ball and created her own fast break lay up. Great Job, Natalie!
Rebekah Widmer pulled down 6 rebounds.
They are enjoying their season, and playing hard...and now they know that they are a good team that can win some games...so the losses where their offense didn't happen are disheartening.
But..with three wins on the season, they are the winningest team in school history! So celebrate that!
Go get them next time, ladies! And watch your ankles!

Guys Win!
The Guy's Varsity saw action at home on Thursday Night against the American Christian Academy Eagles. They never trailed in the game, and won with a final score of 59 to 42. Both squads had excellant ball movement and it was a very exciting game.
Michael Bouchard scored 19 points going 9 for 15 from the floor. He was 1 for 2 from beyond the arch. Jordan Rice scored 11 points, ending up 4 for 10 from the floor with 10 rebounds. He was 3 for 4 from the line.
Brad Milne had his best game of the season, scoring 10 points on 5 for 11 play. Kevin Pannington went 4 for 10 with 9 points scored. Kirk Nichols made the most of his playing minutes scoring 6 points with 3 baskets on 5 attempts.
It was the first win on the season for the Lumberjacks.

Local Paper Citation
The following appeared in the local paper today...
As I am a team dad...and author of this blog...I get to edit it and post it here.
Good Game, Rebekah
Redding Adventist 28, Las Plumas 25 -- The Lumberjacks didn't score in the final quarter, but held on for the win.
Rebbeca Winder (aka Rebekah Widmer) had nine points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals in the victory. Redding Adventist led the Thunderbirds 28-17 going into the fourth.

Lumberjack Guys at Plumas Christian
The men picked up their "axes" and continued play Tuesday 1/2/07 in Greenville. They brought an 0-4 record to the floor, and continue to play without Ryan Ghelfi, who is still out with a broken leg.
This reporter, didn't keep game states quarter by quarter, but I did keep track of the officiating. And in my humble opinion, the officiating continued to be partisian, infavor of the Plumas Christian Pilots. The officials called a total of 16 fouls against the Lumberjacks, while only blowing their whistle 7 times on Plumas Christian. That send Plumas to the line 17 times, while the Lumberjacks only were at the stripe for 2 attempts.
This reporter saw the referees visiting with the Plumas fan base during half time, in a rather friendly manner...and felt the numbers and the over all calls of the game speak for themselves as to the unfairness of the officiating. It doesn't speak well for the officiating crew.
That being said, the Lumberjacks trailed by 12 at the first quarter, 11-23, and were behind 13-43 at the half. They came back slightly in the second half, scoring 22 in the third and 17 in the fourth, to end the game 52-78.
Michael Bouchard led the Lumberjacks with 20 points, and hit 2 from 3 point range. Kevin Pennington scored 18, with 4 buckets from beyond the arc!
Stats are not available as of this writing on line for the Plumas Pilots, but Tory Manchester (#11)scored at least 50 points. (We refered to him on the visiting side line as "The Ball Hog" for his selfish end to end play.) and Stefan Johnson scoring 24. Remember guys...it's a team game.

Lady Lumberjacks at Plumas Christian
The Lady Lumberjacks returned to action Tuesday night in Greenville, CA. After driving for 2 hours through the beautuful South Lassen wilderness, the game got underway at 5:15 p.m. in the Gym of Greenville Highschool.
One minute into the game, the scoreboard went dark. There was about a 5 minute officials time out. They almost had to go with a stop watch, but the scoreboard was revived, and the game resumed.
After the first, the lady lumberjacks led by 4, 10 to 6.
This reporter (also a team dad) got the impression that the officials were calling the game in a rather partisan manner. Calls were made against the lady lumberjacks, while they were not made against the Lady Pilots...but I digress.
At the half, the lady lumberjacks led by just two points, 16 to 14. Both teams, lacking the crisp passing and ball handling skills of the best teams, resorted to rather physical play.
After the third, the lumberjacks led by 11, 28 to 17. It was one of their best quarters all year, scoring 12 points. They would need all those points as their shooting turned cold in the fourth. How cold, you ask? Try..... ZERO.
They hung on to win however...with the final being 28 to 25. Part of that coldness was because of the fact that the lady lumberjacks only were at the free throw line for 5 shots all game and none in the second half. (Was the officiating to blame? You decide)
That puts their over all record at 3-5 for the season...and they are off to their best start ever.
Rebekah Widmer led the team with 9 points, with Natalie Hall adding 6 and Elizabeth Gruber scoring 5.
