Lady Lumberjacks at Dunsmuir

The undefeated lady lumberjacks...... Hey...that has a nice ring to it.
After so many seasons of our ladys school sports program where wins for the year could be counted at the end of the season on one or no fingers, it's nice to start off a year with a win.

(The single win last season will live forever in the hearts of our school and team, where the combined squad won their middle game at the Pacific Union College Tournament on two free throws by Ashley Redlich. Both shots went down with 00:00 on the clock. Wow)

The Lady Lumberjacks traveled to Dunsmuir, CA on November 28, where a squad of 10 student athletes took the floor. Starters for Game 1 were Megan Bouchard, Natalie Hall, Amanda Katz, Makayla Turk and Rebekah Widmer. The first quarter closed with the Jacks trailing the Lady Tigers by 2 points - 12 to 14. 8 first quarter points were scored by Natalie Hall.

The second quarter closed with the Jacks taking a 1 point lead, 23 - 22, with Megan Bourchard and Rebekah Widmer sinking field goals, and Tatiana Hall and Katie Ghelfi each droping a free throw.

At the end of the third, each team had only scored 9 additional points, leaving it still just a one point game, 32-31. The quarter saw Natalie, Makayla and Rebekah get into foul trouble, and sit most of the 3rd quarter. Two of the Lady Tigers Taylor Fesler and Mercedes Machamer fouled out in the 3rd, leaving just 5 players to finish the game.

The Jacks pulled away in the fourth period, with 13 points scored, while the Lady Tigers (dealing with fatigue) were able to score just 5 points.

Final score: Lady Lumberjacks 45, Lady Tigers 36

Good Luck, Lumberjacks (All 8 school teams) for a great season for 06-07.
